Centennial Park Aquatic Center – Park Ridge
New Parking lots, grading for new pools and park amenities and storm water detention facilities
Bono Consulting was retained by the Park Ridge Park District to prepare the site engineering plans and provide construction observation for the new aquatic center. The existing pools were removed and a new Aquatic Center was constructed consisting of a lap pool, wading pool and leisure pool. The existing parking area was insufficient for the new anticipated usage, so the parking was expanded. The existing lots were constructed over bad soils and were in poor condition, so the decision was made by the park District to reconstruct the existing lots.
The increased impervious area required construction of two dry bottom detention ponds. One of the ponds was placed at the base of a sledding hill. And the slope of the hill was extended in to the base of the detention area, thereby making the sledding hill two feet higher.
The new aquatic center is anticipated to be open to the public in June 2014.
