Bono Consulting provided civil engineering services for the development of a new truck facility for fueling, parking, and maintenance at 1001 St. Charles Road in Maywood, Illinois.
During design development, truck turning simulations revealed that challenges existed with the initial layout. The plan was refined by decreasing the amount of trailer parking spaces to address proper maneuverability. The total amount at the facility includes 66 trailer parking spaces and eight guest parking spaces.
The 2.9-acre site did not require a stormwater detention system, but stormwater infiltration measures were necessary. This was solved by installing a stone infiltration trench underneath the parking lot.
A permit from MWRD was obtained for the installation of a new sanitary service connecting to the city sewer main and was required due to the disturbance of more than half an acre at the project site. Stormwater infrastructure was strategically located to avoid contaminated areas.
For this project, the disturbed area exceeded regulatory limits and an erosion control permit from the Illinois EPA was necessary. These applications were completed by the Bono team. For approvals to make the project possible, sidewalks around the project site were also upgraded to meet ADA compliance standards.
