Wild Kit Construction Program
Building Futures
At Bono, we’re proud to partner with Evanston Township High School (ETHS) and their Wild Kit Construction program. ETHS teaches their students geometry through carpentry, blending math principles with hands-on construction building to inspire the next generation of problem-solvers.
What is the Wild Kit Construction program?
This unique program introduces students to geometry alongside the tactile experience of carpentry. Two teachers are present in the classroom for this 2-hour workshop. One is teaching mathematics, and the other teaching carpentry – a side-by-side, “learn by doing” curriculum.
Students see firsthand how mathematical concepts apply to real-world challenges and even career possibilities. The result at the end of the class? Students utilize their geometry and carpentry skills, and work collaboratively to build small houses. These homes will be available as affordable housing options, addressing a critical need in our communities.
Bono’s Role in the Program
We admire the passion that fuels the program, and we wanted to be able to give back to the program in a way that shared our expertise.
As of 2025, we have contributed the engineering design for ten affordable houses built by the students for the Wild Kit construction program. The engineering designs include details for the drainage and grading plans, stormwater management, and how and where utilities will connect to city infrastructure.
This program truly encourages high school students to be more engaged in their studies, even offering insight into what life after graduation could look like for them. This initiative reflects our commitment to STEM education, workforce development, and community engagement, and we’re honored to be part of this journey.
