Sevee & Maher Engineers (SME) has designed the drainage and grading plans for over 60 swimming pools. The most important feature is to keep the pool deck from grading into the pool so that the pool stays clean. The yard needs to be enclosed by a self-closing / self latching gate. The water from the pool deck must be collected and diverted away from the house and also away from neighboring properties. Often the pools are located in the floodplain. If the deck is raised to be above the floodplain, then significant compensatory storage may be required. If the pool is allowed to flood in flood events, then the pool will need to be cleaned out, but the compensatory storage may be greatly reduced or even eliminated.
