Our client, SGW Architecture & Design, won a 2023 Silver Design Award from the Association of Licensed Architects for the CA6 West Loop luxury condominium building and Bono Consulting is honored to have served as the civil engineering partner for this successful project.
What’s the CA6 building?
The building, named CA6, is in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood on South Racine Avenue. The 8-story residential building consists of 72 residences, with the entire seventh and eighth floors accommodating 12 two-story duplex units.

How did Bono help with this project?
Bono performed civil engineering design including grading, stormwater management, and utility connections. We provided a grading plan that regraded the public sidewalk and curb from three separate buildings with three different finish floor grades into one building with a single finish floor grade, while making sure to meet Chicago’s ADA accessibility requirements.
We provided a cost-effective solution to meet Chicago’s stormwater requirements (more on that below), and we also provided utility coordination to ensure that the building’s new utility services did not conflict with the multitude of underground utilities typically found in Chicago’s right of way requirement.
What were some of the challenges or unique aspects of this project?
This project was unique in that we were able to re-use the existing basement for the stormwater detention vault. Our design called for waterproofing the basement walls and floor with a crystalline spray and cored storm sewer piping into the walls. This unique design provided substantial cost savings over a typical stormwater detention vault for a Chicago project.
