FEMA releases updated Elevation Certificate Form and Instructions

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has released an updated version of the National Flood Insurance Program’s Elevation Certificate and Instructions that is valid through June 30, 2026.

The Elevation Certificate is used to document elevation information to ensure compliance with community floodplain management ordinances.

Older versions of this document should no longer be used for new certificate submittals. Older, previously submitted Elevation Certificates do not expire, unless there is a physical change to the building that invalidates information in Section A, items A8 or A9; Section C; Section E; or Section H. In addition, the form is intended for the specific building referenced in Section A and is not invalidated by the transfer of building ownership.

The new forms have several new sections including the availability to select WGS 84 as the horizontal datum, which is the datum behind Google Maps. The updated version also includes new sections H & I which ask for the distance from the LAG to the first floor and the engineer’s certification. There are also new requirements for describing the house pictures.
