Zippy’s Car Wash hired Bono Consulting to design the engineering plans for a new commercial car wash located on Milwaukee Avenue in Niles, Illinois. The project required permits from the Village of Niles, IDOT & MWRD. The existing property had a vacant residential house and several village utility mains running through the site. Our engineering design included grading & utility design for the entire site including a stormwater detention system of oversized pipes located beneath the parking lot. We worked with ownership to maximize the amount of parking and access to the site. This included the design of a new, right turn lane into the site from Milwaukee Avenue that required dedicating the land to IDOT and coordinating with them on permitting and construction.
The existing utilities running through the site proved challenging as we had to design a new layout for a water main that would not obstruct the development of the project. We also needed to coordinate the repair and rerouting of an existing storm main so that our stormwater management system would function and also improve the system for surrounding neighbors. The project has since been completed and is open to give car washes.
